E3 2015 marked the rise of the female game hero. This approach is expected from independent developers, but this year the big publishers also went all in. Here are seven big games with playable female heroes!
1. Faith (Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst)
Faith Connors is back in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, a prequel to the 2008 cult classic. This time the game offers an open world with all kinds of missions to run. No guns, just bare hands and a kick ass attitude. We are looking forward to this one!
2. ???? (ReCore)
Re-Core was the surprise announcement from Microsoft. Not much is known about the gameplay, but the main female hero does have a robotic sidekick. By placing his core into a new body, she can change the looks and powers of her buddy. Re-Core will be out in the Spring of 2016 as an exclusive for Xbox One.
3. Lara Croft (Rise of the Tomb Raider)
In Rise of the Tomb Raider the younger version of Lara Croft is no longer the vulnerable character we saw in the last edition. She’s a risk taking adventurer doing things that would scare the living hell out of normal people. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be out this Fall on the Xbox One.
4. Emily Kaldwin (Dishonored 2)
Bethesda announced Dishonored 2 during their E3 presentation. You will have a choice to play as Corvo or as Emily Kaldwin, the girl you had to save in the first game. Emily and Corvo are trying to restore Emily to power as the rightful heir to the throne.
5. ???? (NieR 2)
With the announcement of Nier 2 Square Enix sure had a big surprise up their sleeve. The game will have three protagonists and at least one of them will be a girl. The new game in the franchise is an action role playing game made by Platinum Games, the studio that’s also responsible for Bayonetta. No wonder we are excited about this one!
6. Aloy (Horizon: Zero Dawn)
When Guerrilla Games announced the open world action rpg Horizon Zero Dawn, we were blown away. Fighting robotic dinosaurs sounds amazing and the female lead looks totally bad ass. Aloy looks fierce and fully capable of putting 10 arrows in the face of anything resembling a robot.
7. Evie Frye (Assassin’s Creed Syndicate)
Evie Frye is the female hero of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Together with her twin brother Jacob she’s fights the Templars during the Industrial Revolution in nineteenth century London. It’s nice to know that Ubisoft is paying attention and figuring out how to better animate female characters.
